How This All Started
My dream for Hip Bee Homestead is for it to be a successful hemp farm. The homestead part was first, when my late husband started watching videos and talking to me about doing what we could around our suburban home to make it more like a homestead.
Part of that started with beekeeping. It’s been such a gift. Learning about honey bees has been fascinating, and I also won a blue ribbon for one of my honey bee photographs!
I learned a lot from Brian and started dreaming about moving further away from the city and really focusing on the hemp growing part of the homestead. Slowly but surely. Life gets in the way but the dream lives on!
I’ve Always Wanted to Grow Cannabis
How this all started. In college, I discovered cannabis. Alcohol had been something I enjoyed but once I found weed, that was it. The more I know about it, the more I love it, and for so many reasons. Brian and I enjoyed cannabis together for many years. He even smoked it after he was diagnosed with ALS, and even still once he was on a ventilator with a trach. Brian knew so much about cannabis and we both have tried our hands at growing it.
Approved to Grow!
Last year, I got my USDA Hemp Producer license which is super exciting! I had found some land that would work for a hemp farm but things changed and I am now back in Alabama (where it is very NOT legal to grow) caring for my dad. Still on the lookout for land and making plans for the future.
Pivot!
