Our founder, Jen Parker, became a caregiver for her husband Brian after he was diagnosed with ALS. Brian, who was completely paralyzed, needed constant care. Jen left her corporate job to look after him, and Brian suggested they start keeping bees. Jen reached out to Betsy, a former co-worker and beekeeper. Betsy, whose father also had ALS, understood their situation and wanted to give them a “gift of love.” She became Jen’s first mentor, providing all the equipment needed for two hives to get started. We were heartbroken when we lost Brian in 2021. He continues to inspire us all. You can find more about his story and purchase his incredible art here.

In 2024, Jen went to a Billy Strings concert in Asheville and met Tom, who, to her surprise, was also a beekeeper! What are the odds?! They danced the night away and kept in touch after the show, eventually falling in love. Together, they started exploring ways to turn their shared passion for honey bees into a livelihood.
